Company promotional codes
One of the ways your company could encourage sales and raise awareness is via promotional codes relevant to your customer.
In a recent survey 48 per cent of consumers would be likely to respond to text offers if these were sent from a company they had previously purchased from (Text Marketer, August 2012).
The messages can be sent via text or according to the preferences of your customer and the time of year. This will allow your company to gather valuable feedback about your products and services.
For example, your company might consider including a mobile promotional code on a local direct mailing, extending the reach of that marketing spend.
1. Get permission
In order to build a trusting relationship with your customer it’s imperative that they opt-in to your communications, so make sure you get their permission to connect with them.
2. Give a targeted offer
The more timely and topical your campaign the better. For example: ‘Summer’s here – are you having a cockroach invasion? Use this code to get 10% off your next pest call-out’.
3. Provide a simple ‘call to action’
Make it simple and easy. The prompts ‘Call us now’ or ‘Reply to this SMS’ are likely to have the best response. The harder you make it for the customer, the fewer the responses.
4. Timing is everything
Because SMS is so immediate, the time of day is important to the success of your campaign. Studies have shown that mobile phones are used most between midday and 6pm. Although it depends on the product, the best time to send a marketing campaign is mid to late afternoon.
5. Gain the user’s trust
Make sure that you clearly identify your company and provide an opt-out route. Although this is a legal requirement it is also best practice. Include a STOP shortcode in the SMS (txt STOP to 871234).
